EmblemHealth Companies Expand Relationship with ValueOptions® To Provide Comprehensive Behavioral Health Care
Consumers to Benefit from Integrated Care and Access to Extensive Provider Network
NEW YORK, NY (May 12, 2011) –EmblemHealth companies Group Health Incorporated (GHI) and HIP Health Plan of New York (HIP), which provide health insurance to 2.9 million people, have expanded their relationship with ValueOptions to deliver comprehensive behavioral health services to their health plan members.
This extended arrangement builds on a long-term relationship between GHI and ValueOptions to now manage all inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse services for GHI and HIP’s privately-insured, Medicare and Medicaid members.
Research shows that individuals with mental illness are far more likely to also suffer from a number of co-morbidities. “We are aware of the role mental health plays in overall health, well-being, and the prevention and management of chronic conditions such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes,” says William Gillespie, MD, Chief Medical Officer for EmblemHealth. “We believe that behavioral health services are a key component of an effective, fully integrated wellness program; and with the expertise ValueOptions® brings as a leader in this field, we are committed to best position the company to improve the quality of care of our members and their health outcomes.”
EmblemHealth selected ValueOptions, which serves more than 24 million members and is the nation’s largest independent behavioral health and wellness company, because of its extensive experience and expertise in integrating and managing many elements of care for all lines of business and because of its vast nationwide network of quality behavioral health professionals. In addition, ValueOptions has a track record of delivering innovative technologies to empower and engage consumers, including facilitating teletherapy in rural areas, developing health alerts for mobile devices and providing online services that help members manage their care and make informed health decisions.
“We are thrilled to build on our relationship with EmblemHealth, especially at this important time when the impact of behavioral health on one’s total health is becoming increasingly clear,” Heyward Donigan, President and CEO of ValueOptions®, said.
