Managed-care firm ValueOptions, in collaboration with George Washington University (GWU), will receive a Young Adults in the Workplace (YIW) grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Business Wire reported Oct. 20.

The grant will fund a research project aimed at determining the most effective way to develop Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) to service young workers, who are have the highest rate of alcohol and other drug abuse. Young adults who have dropped out of high school to enter the work force, or who have elected not to attend college, are the primary focus.

The program will employ a three-phase method to find the optimal EAP model, using a combination of existing databasing strategies to compile data that will streamline the programs to the demographic for optimal efficiency.

ValueOptions, a nationwide behavior health care management organization that specializes in EAPs, will pilot the program for two years with GWU, and then introduce it to its broader market.
