Helping Callers

When an employee contacts ValueOptions to access services through the EAP, she will speak with a licensed clinician who will discuss with her the reason for the call, identify what services the individual is seeking and evaluate the health risk factors associated with the presenting concern. Together, the individual and the clinician will determine what the next steps will be. Frequently, the next step is to schedule a face-to-face meeting with a counselor in the individual’s local area to further define the issues, identify both internal and environmental strengths and supports, develop an action plan to address the individual’s concerns and facilitate linkages with behavioral and physical health care resources.

While the majority of individuals accessing care through the EAP are seeking guidance around everyday living problems, the initial assessment of the EAP can uncover health-risk factors that can be minimized through behavioral interventions.

The EAP can help individuals identify and meet their healthy weight goals through assessment, linkages with resources, motivational counseling, ongoing support and self-help.

No issue is too small to receive attention through the EAP. Our counselors help individuals recognize that any barriers to a healthy lifestyle and healthy weight can be overcome, and will help them tap their internal strengths and external supports to do so. The EAP is a key element in an organization’s healthy lifestyle/healthy weight outreach efforts.
